Hey beautiful people!
Just wanted to tell you about an experience I had today.
I was getting coffee and writing a midterm paper while sitting next to two women. One was a middle aged very tan and toned woman, the other was a young woman, most likely in high school, sitting nervously with her coffee cup. Apparently, this was a meeting between a trainer and a client. The trainer told the girl how to eat, how many carbs she could have, how to weigh her food, and how often she should work out. They discussed weight goals and stress eating. Meanwhile, I was about tempted to burst into their conversation. I couldnt help myself. As the young girl left I blurted
“youuuu are beeauuuuttiffull just the way you aree!!!”
….”wow, that means alot”, she responded.
There are two things I have realized within my own struggle with body image:
1. Part of the issue regarding body image is how beauty is gendered. Many girls try to meet ideals that are created by men and reinforced between women. In other words, we have the ability to change this cycle of negative body image.
2. I have noticed that lately I have been telling random strangers that I think they are beautiful. Not for the thrill, just genuinely becuase I think they are exquisite. Some people think it is weird, but it really can make someones day. Give it a shot!
