I want you all to look very closely at this woman. Her name is Lizzie Velasquez, 21 years of age, and weighs about 55lbs(or 25.4ish kg), has nearly 0% body fat, and isn’t anorexic.
She suffers from a rare and undiagnosed syndrome that prevents her from putting on weight, and has to eat every 15 minutes in order to stay alive. She has about 60 small meals a day, consisting of between 5,000 and 8,000 calories. She was born four weeks prematurely and doctors found there was minimal amniotic fluid protecting her in the womb. Genetic experts could not diagnose her illness, and her case fascinated doctors all over the world. Now she is part of a study run by Professor Abhimanyu Garg in Dallas. Garg believes Velasquez may have Neonatal Progeroid Syndrome which causes accelerated ageing, and fat loss from the face and body.
Lizzie has said, “I weigh myself regularly and if I gain even one pound I get really excited. I eat every 15-20 minutes to keep my energy levels up. I eat small portions of crisps, sweets, chocolate, pizza, chicken, cake, doughnuts, ice cream, noodles and pop tarts all day long, so I get pretty upset when people accuse me of being anorexic. When I meet new people I have to say: ‘Hi, I’m Lizzie and I have this rare syndrome, I am NOT anorexic’.”
Please don’t feel like she’s lucky that she is this way.
I think we need to take time out of our days to be happy for what we have, cherish our bodies, and be thankful for them. I’m not gonna throw out some form of a guilt trip on this saying you should be thankful for what you have because you could be this and so on;
What I do want all of you to come from this is that if this woman can smile constantly with a body like her own, we should be able to do that too, regardless of everything.
I’m not Lizzie, and I don’t know how you could get in contact with her, but I am here to help any of you in any form, regardless of if you’re a lady or a gentleman.
Smile today; you’re wonderful. <3
